Kumlubuk

Kumlubük is a bay roughly 27 kilometres southwest of Marmaris, on the same stretch of coast as the neighbouring resort of Turunç, in Muğla province, Turkey. Its long beach of sand and pebbles, backed by pine forest and steep hills, has made it a base for small seafood restaurants and a yacht club rather than a large resort, and depths just off the beach reach 10–20 metres, giving boats room to anchor close to shore.

Above the bay, on Cape Asarcık, stand the ruins of Amos, a Greek city said to have been founded by Dorian colonists from Rhodes by around the 7th century BC and later counted among the members of the Delian League. Visible remains include stretches of city wall, a well-preserved theatre overlooking the sea, a temple foundation and a necropolis, reached by a short walk from the beach, and the site is open-air and free to enter, drawing both history-minded visitors and swimmers on their way back down to the water.

Combining a swim with a look at these ruins makes Kumlubük a popular stop for gulet charter guests exploring Marmaris, particularly on cruises that also call at Turunç.
