Best Time to Visit Kas

Kaş sits on Turkey's Lycian coast in Antalya province, where a Mediterranean climate produces long, dry, sun-drenched summers and short, mild, wetter winters. Daytime temperatures climb from around 14–16°C in January to a peak of roughly 30–33°C in August, while the sea follows a similar curve, dropping to its coolest at about 17°C in March before warming to close to 28°C by late August. Rain is heavily concentrated between November and February, and July and August are close to rain-free, which is part of why the coast fills with boats in high summer. The conventional swimming season runs from May to December, the stretch during which the sea generally stays above 20°C.

Summer (June–August)

These are the hottest, driest, busiest months on this stretch of coast. Air temperatures regularly sit in the low-to-mid 30s°C, the sea is at its warmest and calmest for swimming and snorkelling around Kaş's coves, and predictable afternoon sea breezes — part of the same thermal wind pattern found along the wider Gulf of Antalya, gentler here than the true Aegean Meltemi further west — keep the heat bearable on deck without seriously disrupting a gulet's daily schedule. The trade-off is that marinas, anchorages and the town's harbour restaurants are at their fullest, and charter rates peak alongside demand.

Shoulder Season (May, June, September–November)

Most operators run the Kaş gulet season from around April to late October, but the most comfortable window within it tends to be May, June, September and into October, when daytime highs settle in the mid-20s°C and the sea is still warm enough for long swims without the peak-season crush. Late September into November is often singled out as the calmest stretch of all, with fewer boats sharing the bays, softer light for exploring the coastline by tender, and daytime temperatures that stay pleasant well after the summer holidaymakers have gone home. Early spring and late autumn bring more of the year's rainfall and cooler water, so swimming becomes less reliable outside the April–November run.

Kaş is also one of Turkey's best-known diving hubs, with more than 30 dive sites within roughly half an hour of the harbour and visibility that regularly exceeds 30 metres. Divers tend to split into two camps: those who prefer June, July and September, when the water sits in the 25–30°C range, and those who target April, May, October and November instead, when reduced plankton often gives even clearer conditions despite a cooler sea, dropping to around 15°C by February and March.

Late June brings the International Lycia–Kaş Culture and Art Festival, several days of folk dance, live music and local food built around the town's harbour, plus its best-known fixture: an open-water swim race across the strait to the Greek island of Kastellorizo (Meis), held annually since 2005 over a roughly 7-kilometre course. It's a good marker, alongside the weather, for the best time to charter a gulet in Kas — travellers wanting festival energy and reliably hot, dry conditions should target late June through August, while those who prefer quieter anchorages and comfortable heat without the crowds tend to book for September or October.
