Seven Capes

South of Fethiye, between Ölüdeniz and Patara, runs the Seven Capes (Yedi Burun), a stretch of coastline where steep, pine-covered mountains drop straight into the sea. The line starts near Keçi Burnu, about nine nautical miles south of Ölüdeniz, and takes in seven named headlands — Yediburunbaşı, Kötü Burun, Sancak Burnu, İnkaklık Burun, Yassı Burun, Kılıç Burnu and Zeytin Burun — before the coast opens out toward Patara.

Prevailing northwesterly winds can make the water choppy close to the capes, so boats generally hold a course further offshore to avoid the gusts funnelling off the cliffs. On land, the same route is followed by hikers on the Lycian Way, passing above Kayaköy and through the hillside villages of Faralya and Alınca before descending to the ruins and beach at Patara. The trek along this stretch is one of the more demanding sections of the Lycian Way, Turkey's long-distance coastal footpath.

With its rugged headlands and long views back toward the Fethiye gulf, this coastline is worth a visit if you're chartering a gulet from Fethiye and want a wilder stretch of water than the sheltered bays closer to town.
