Agios Nikolaos (Zakynthos)

Agios Nikolaos is a small coastal settlement on the northeast tip of Zakynthos, roughly 30 kilometres from Zakynthos Town. Administratively it falls under the inland village of Volimes, about 10 kilometres away, and its own permanent population is tiny, around 40 residents by census count, making it one of the quieter corners of an island better known for its crowded southern beaches and busy resort strips.

What draws visitors here is its position at the edge of the island's Blue Caves, a run of sea caves and rock arches along the coast toward Cape Skinari, where sunlight through the shallow water gives the sea a striking turquoise-blue colour. Small boats regularly run from the village harbour out to the caves and back, and the sheltered anchorage nearby, protected by a small offshore islet of the same name, has long made Agios Nikolaos a convenient waypoint for boats working along the island's northern coast.

That combination of a natural harbour and easy access to one of Zakynthos's best-known sights is exactly why it remains a popular stop for gulet charter guests exploring Greece.
