Finikas Beach

Finikas is a small village on the southwestern coast of Syros, the Cycladic island that serves as the administrative capital of both the Cyclades and the wider South Aegean region. The 2021 census counted 21,124 residents across the whole of Syros, though Finikas itself remains a quiet fraction of that, a cluster of tavernas and low houses set back from a sheltered bay roughly eleven kilometres from the island's capital, Ermoupoli, along the coast of the Poseidonia municipal district.

The village takes its name from an ancient Phoenician trading post once established here, and its harbour has long ranked as the island's second port after Ermoupoli itself. That harbour is what makes the bay useful for sailors: tucked away from the strong summer meltemi winds that sweep the Cyclades, it offers steadier holding than many open beaches nearby, with facilities enough for a range of vessel sizes to stop overnight. It is one of the anchorages you'll visit on a private gulet cruise in Greece tracing the western side of the island, and onshore the sandy beach and its handful of cafes make for an easy stop between swims.
