White Beach

Locally known as Lefki Ammos, or White Beach, this small cove sits on Santorini's southwest coast near the village of Akrotiri, about 14 kilometers from Fira and within sight of the island's better-known Red Beach. Despite the name, the shoreline itself is a mix of black pebbles and grey volcanic sand — the "white" refers to the sheer, pale cliffs rising behind it, a striking contrast to the darker rock found elsewhere along this coast.

There is no road to White Beach; the only ways in are by water taxi from the Akrotiri pier, which runs at intervals through the summer season, or on foot along a coastal path from Red Beach nearby. That inaccessibility keeps the cove noticeably quieter than most of Santorini's shoreline even in peak season, and the water close to shore is clear enough to see the seabed from a boat.

Anchoring is possible off the beach in settled weather, though southern winds can push swell into the cove and make it uncomfortable. There are no shops, cafés, or shade structures on site, so visitors typically bring their own supplies for a few hours ashore. Reachable only by sea, the cove is best reached during a gulet cruise along the Greece coast, usually paired with a stop at Red Beach or the nearby Akrotiri excavations.
