Platis Gialos Mykonos

Platis Gialos is a beach on the southern coast of Mykonos, around 4.5 kilometres from Mykonos Town (Chora), the island's main harbour and the base for most of its 10,704 year-round residents recorded in the 2021 census. The bay faces southeast, which keeps it noticeably calmer than the north-shore beaches whenever the meltemi wind picks up over the Aegean in summer.

The beach itself is a crescent of fine golden sand roughly 280 metres long, with shallow, clear water that shelves gently for a good distance offshore — a rare combination on an island better known for wind and drama than for calm, swimmable shallows. It is fully organised, backed by hotels built almost onto the sand, rows of sunbeds and parasols, and a run of beachfront restaurants serving everything from Greek classics to Italian dishes. Jet-skis and waterskiing are on offer for anyone wanting more than a swim.

Regular buses run between Mykonos Town and Platis Gialos, and water taxis from the beach continue on to Paranga, Paradise and Elia further along the same coast, which is what makes it a popular stop for gulet charter guests exploring Mykonos.
