Aghia Eufimia Marina

Agia Efimia sits on the eastern coast of Kefalonia, the largest of the Ionian Islands, gathered around a narrow inlet that has sheltered fishing boats for generations. According to the 2021 Greek census, the village counted just 638 residents, a scale that keeps its harbourfront unhurried even in the height of summer. It was formerly the seat of the Pylaros municipality and now falls under the wider municipality of Sami.

Much of the settlement had to be rebuilt after the 1953 Ionian earthquake, which devastated large parts of Kefalonia; only a handful of the original stone houses along the waterfront survived intact. What emerged afterward is the low, pastel-toned village seen today, still organised around the same small harbour that once supported a working fishing fleet.

That harbour has since become a magnet for sailing traffic, regularly used by flotilla operators and private yachts moving along the Ionian coastline, with tavernas, a bakery and a handful of shops lining the quay. Thanks to its sheltered position and easy access to Ithaca and the open Ionian Sea, the anchorage is best reached during a gulet cruise along the Greece coast, making it one of the more practical overnight stops in the area.
