Lakka

Lakka is the second-largest village on the island of Paxos, wrapped around a near-circular, horseshoe-shaped harbour at the island's northern tip. Two headlands shelter the bay almost completely from the open sea, which is why the anchorage has long been one of the safest overnight stops in the Ionian for sailing boats and yachts, especially those making the crossing to or from Corfu.

Much of the village's architecture reflects its centuries under Venetian rule, with pastel-coloured houses lining the waterfront cafes and tavernas that now cater to holidaymakers rather than fishermen. A stone lighthouse built in 1832 still stands on the headland above the bay, and the ruins of a small fortress nearby recall a time when islanders retreated inland to escape pirate raids along this stretch of coast.

What was once a modest fishing settlement has grown into a relaxed summer resort without losing its old rhythm, and its position as the northernmost port on Paxos makes it a popular stop for gulet charter guests exploring Greece before they continue north toward Corfu or south to Antipaxos and Gaios.
