Kamares Sifnos

Kamares is the main port and gateway to Sifnos, a compact island in the western Cyclades lying between Serifos and Milos, roughly 130 kilometers from Piraeus. The settlement sits in a sheltered west-coast bay and belongs to the wider municipality of Apollonia, the island's capital a few kilometers inland. As the arrival point for ferries from Piraeus, Kythnos, Serifos, Milos and Kimolos, Kamares has grown into a relaxed harbor town lined with cafes, tavernas and traditional Cycladic houses facing the water.

The bay is fronted by a long, sandy beach that shelves gently into calm, clear water, making it a comfortable stop for families as well as visiting boats. Sifnos itself, home to around 2,770 residents according to the 2021 census, has long been known for its pottery tradition and its cuisine — chickpea stew (revithada) slow-cooked in clay pots is a local specialty found in the tavernas around the port.

For sailors, Kamares offers a convenient overnight stop with basic services and easy access to the rest of the island by bus or on foot. Its mix of working harbor and holiday village makes it worth a visit if you're chartering a gulet in Greece, particularly for those island-hopping through the Cyclades.
