Telascica Bay
Telašćica is a deep bay on the southern tip of Dugi Otok, protected since 1980 and declared a nature park in 1988. The park covers 70.5 square kilometres in total — about 44.5 km² of sea and 26 km² of land — and takes in 13 surrounding islands and islets plus six more within the bay itself, along with roughly 25 small beaches.
Its most striking feature is the Stene, a line of cliffs that rise up to 161 metres above the sea and drop a further 85 metres below the surface — among the tallest sea cliffs in the Adriatic. On the narrow strip of land between the bay and the open sea lies Lake Mir, a saltwater lake known for its mineral-rich mud. The park's waters and land together support more than 500 plant species on land and over 300 plant and 300 animal species beneath the surface.
The area's link to the sea goes back centuries — the earliest written record of fishing here dates to the end of the 10th century — and Telašćica remains one of the most sheltered natural anchorages on the coast, best reached during a gulet cruise along the Croatia coast.
