Sali

Sali is the largest settlement and administrative centre of Dugi Otok, an island in the Zadar archipelago, with a fishing tradition first documented in written sources from the 10th century. Salt production, recorded from the 12th century, is thought to have given the village its name. Its population has fallen sharply over the past century, from a peak of 1,230 in 1948 to roughly 740 today.

The village's heritage is preserved in its churches: the parish Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary holds a 17th-century wooden altar and Glagolitic inscriptions, alongside the smaller churches of St Roch and St Nicholas.

Sali sits beside Telašćica Nature Park and serves as the last port of call before the Kornati National Park, an archipelago of 89 islands spread across some 217 km² of protected sea. The town's own marina, sheltered in a bay divided into the Bura and Japar sides and shielded by a long breakwater, offers around 90 berths at an entrance depth of 5–6 metres.

As the gateway to Kornati, Sali is a popular stop for gulet charter guests exploring Croatia.
