Kut

Kut is one of three villages — along with Luka and Gradina — that merged in the 16th century to form Vis Town, on the island of Vis. It occupies the southeastern part of the Bay of St George and is linked to Luka, the harbour quarter, by a seafront promenade.

The district is known for Renaissance and baroque stone houses and a handful of 16th- and 17th-century palaces, including the Garibaldi, Prvić and Jakša palaces. Its landmark is a 19th-century Austrian fort known as Gospina baterija (Our Lady's Battery), which helped repel an Italian naval attack during the 1866 Battle of Vis and today houses an archaeological museum with Greek pottery, jewellery and amphorae recovered from the island, including a bronze head believed to depict Artemis.

There is no separately named marina at Kut — boats calling at Vis Town moor along the town's waterfront — but the old quarter, with its stone streets and museum, is a popular stop for gulet charter guests exploring Croatia.
