Komrcar Park

Komrčar Park is a park-forest on the edge of the old town of Rab, on Rab Island — in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, well north of Pula and unrelated to Istria. Covering 8.3 hectares, it was originally common grazing land until the forest ranger Pravdoje Belija began planting it with pines and other trees starting in 1890, reportedly against fierce local resistance — residents are said to have pulled out his young seedlings more than once. The plantings took hold, and the site was formally declared a protected park-forest by the Nature Protection Institute in Zagreb on 15 March 1965.

Today the park's Aleppo pines shade footpaths that run along the town walls of Rab, between the old town and the sea — a short walk from the harbour, where many gulet cruises in Croatia call in here as part of a Kvarner itinerary.
