Muna

Muna, also known as Port Muna, is the main harbour on Žirje, the farthest permanently inhabited island of the Šibenik archipelago, right on the edge of the Kornati National Park. It's a small place — a scatter of waterfront houses, a summer-only tavern, and not much else — which is exactly the appeal for boats looking to get away from busier ports along the coast.

The bay sits on the island's northeast side and gives decent shelter from most winds. There are 15 moorings here, plus the option to tie up along the shore, where the water is shallow — about 1.5 metres — before dropping off further out. Electricity hookups are available at the moorings, and a small ferry connects Žirje to Šibenik, so it's best to avoid the inner side of the breakwater where the ferry docks.

Žirje has fewer than a hundred permanent residents, most of them up in Žirje village on the hill above the port, where life still runs on olives, grapes, and plums much as it always has. Down at Muna, the pace is even slower — grilled fish and a glass of local white wine at the tavern is about as much excitement as the place offers, which is exactly why many gulet cruises in Croatia call in here for a quiet overnight anchorage before pushing on toward Kornati.
