Lagnjici Island

Lagnjici Island

Lagnjici — also known as Lagan — is a pair of small islets off the northern tip of Dugi Otok, near the Veli Rat lighthouse, best known for the wreck of the Michelle. The Italian cargo ship, built in 1962, ran aground here on June 11, 1983, while carrying a load of fertilizer — island lore says the crew grounded it deliberately for the insurance money.

The wreck sits in just 3 to 6 meters of water, with part of the deck reaching almost to the surface, so it's an easy dive even for beginners, and snorkelers can explore it without diving gear at all. It's since become one of the more popular underwater attractions on Dugi Otok — Croatian singer Gibonni even filmed a music video on the half-sunken hull.

For many sailors, Lagnjici is one of the anchorages you'll visit on a private gulet cruise in Croatia.
