Bishop's Palace

The Bishop's Palace marks one end of Hvar Town's main square, the Pjaca — at roughly 4,500 m², the largest town square in Dalmatia, paved over in 1780 when this stretch of the old bay was filled in. Most of the buildings framing the square, the Bishop's Palace included, date from the 15th to 17th centuries, the same stretch of Venetian-era prosperity that also gave Hvar its Arsenal and theatre.

The palace underwent a significant renovation and extension between 1910 and 1912 under Bishop Jordan Zaninović, and it remains tied to the diocese today, occasionally opening for exhibitions and events.

It's an easy stop if you're walking the square before heading back down to the harbor — many visitors combine a day of sightseeing with a private gulet charter along the Croatia coast.
