Loviste

Lovište sits right at the western tip of the Pelješac Peninsula, about 17 kilometers from Orebić, where the land runs out and the Pelješac Channel opens toward the island of Korčula. It's tiny — the last census counted 187 residents — and that's basically the point: no crowds, no big hotels, just a working fishing village that also takes in a handful of summer visitors.

The village itself is relatively young by Dalmatian standards. It was founded in 1885 by settlers who came over from the island of Hvar, and the Church of the Heart of Mary, built the same year, is still the most recognizable landmark in the village center. Locals today make their living from fishing, small-scale wine and fruit growing, shipping and tourism.

For anyone on the water, Lovište's real draw is the anchorage. Port Lovište is sheltered from the wind, has a small marina with around 20 buoys, and depths between 7 and 15 meters over a sandy bottom — solid holding for an overnight stop. A string of small coves around it, including Pržna, Krizica and Rasoha, give you quieter spots nearby if you want them to yourself.

It's not a headline destination, but it's worth a visit if you're chartering a gulet from Dubrovnik — especially if you want a stop that isn't packed with day-trippers.
