Dubrovnik Archaeological Museum

Despite its name, the Dubrovnik Archaeological Museum doesn't have a building of its own — it operates out of Fort Revelin, the fortress guarding the Old Town's eastern entrance near the Ploče Gate. Its roots go back to 1872, when a "Patriotic Museum" was founded in the city and put its first archaeological finds on display the following year.

The collection spans a long stretch of time, from early Neolithic material up to objects tied to the 1667 earthquake that devastated the city, and it became a dedicated Archaeological Museum within the Dubrovnik Museums network in the 1990s. Rather than one large permanent display, it currently runs two exhibitions inside Revelin: one on early medieval sculpture from Dubrovnik and the surrounding area, and another on the fortress's own history, including the foundry once housed there.

It's a small, easy stop if you're already walking the walls or exploring the Old Town, and for plenty of visitors it's just one piece of a longer day that includes exploring the coast by boat from Dubrovnik.
